To change yourself you have to move from where you are and take a step, then you have to be willing to keep doing it.
~ Brent M. Jones
Whether the New Year is the first days and weeks of January, or the new year is the first days and weeks after the anniversary of a loved one’s death, the relentless march of time painfully reminds us of the distance between what was and what is.
Rather than day-to-day experience our life with our loved one becomes a collection of memories. How to go on? That is often the question.
We go on when grieving no differently than we go on when not grieving. In small, sometimes imperceptible increments. One step. One more step. One change. One deep breath. Learning just this tiny piece about how to go on. And then, tomorrow, learning another.
